Powick Hams Ramps - worth a visit for young and old alike

While the good folk of Worcester wait with barely contained anticipation for the first pump track in the city to be completed, there are already some excellent spots in and around the city for a bit of bicycle based excitement, for young and old alike. Thanks to Karter Hobbs for this blog post.

Powick Hams, located around the Southern Link Road is a significant site, and ahs continued to be built upon by members of the organisation that undertakes maintenance. Hereford And Worcester Keeping Active, formerly known as Worcester Community Clubs Trust, has worked at the Powick site since 2019. There were ramps and trails built before this, where three tracks had been made to a great ordeal.

A bit of history

The site was turned into a Public Common in 2009, by two locals. In around 2011-2012, a group named Madresfield Estate & Court took over the management of the common. The site has then been built on from 2009, by a group we would believe to be called DTS Trails. They had turned the site into what most of us see today! In 2019, Evan Levens (Chief Executive Officer of Kingsford National Youths Partnerships, and Founder of Hereford And Worcester Keeping Active) had requested permission to maintain the site with the Commons Regulatory Authority and Madresfield Estate. In late 2019, permission was granted and a contract was made. In the outbreak of Covid-19, the site was mainly abandoned by staff, and was mainly used for dog walking. Upon re-opening of the site in 2022, with help of various volunteers and members of the public the site was fixed up back to something resembling it's best. In late 2022, the sites members and users had all came back again to make a whopping number of 400+ users on the logs today!

What does the site contain?

The site contains 5 trails. They are commonly referred to as: The Boxer, Mainline, Sideline, Undoable and the Booster. The trails are constantly being maintained and tweaked by our community members and volunteers. Members of the team work at times that suit other activities, with the aim of always maintaining the site in a usable state, and that the environment is safe. Due to its location adjacent to the River Teme the site regularly floods, when the site is subject to rain for long durations; and even though in some ways this is ideal for the structure of the ramps, it does leave a lot of work for the volunteers and members to clear up.

General Atmosphere

The site is really nice, and everyone is really welcoming - people are always having a laugh and it's always really good fun!

Where to find us
