Update: 19th June 2022

Well, how about it? A bit of cycling news. Buckle up, it's a good one!

Featured route

This one has a bit of hill, but links Cathedral Square and St Peter's Garden Centre. You'll want a rucksack, pannier rack (or a trailer) for bringing any goodies home. The route is here and involves cutting through Diglis. There is no right turn for cycles into Edgar Street but you can use the pelican crossing - watch our for pedestrians!

Bike news

The North Worcester Bike Bus is no longer the only Bike Bus in town. Congratulations to St George's RC Primary for their first trip to school, and well done to Izzy for organising! A Bike Bus is an organised cycle for school children travelling to school, with grown ups and ride leaders forming a protective cordon (on bikes) around the group. It's a lot of fun and a great way to build confidence for both children and grown ups. Want to start a Bike Bus for your school? As of today she is within 110 miles of John O'Groats. Keep going, Gina. What a legend. You can read more about Gina's adventure here, and donate to her fundraising for Women's aid and Refuge. In our infrastructure fails category, we have the new "bike lane" on New Street in Worcester. The worst of it is captured in the photo below, but its not just a speed camera: bins, lampposts and other street furniture obstruct the now-demarked cycle lane. But. There is hope: the new Highways Cabinet member for County Council (@mikerouseuk) has shared his condolences and Richard Udall (City and County Councillor for St John's) promises better improvements on the other side of the road.  Let's see...

Events

Bike Worcester supports getting more women and girls onto wheels. We're working with JoyRiders to empower more women to cycle: JoyRiders provide a ‘Rite of Passage’ for the 30% of women who – although they do not currently ride a bike regularly, if at all – say they would like to. The aim is to organise fully led rides - for women, by women - to help women gain confidence in their riding skills to the point where they are happy and comfortable riding a bike independently. If you'd like to know more or get involved, please message us on Twitter or Facebook. The next Critical Mass ride is 16th July. People we know said the turnout this month was awesome and next month could be even bigger. It's not a Bike Worcester event, but you'll find lots of the community there. Suitable for all ages, abilities and cycle types.Bike Worcester has a stall at The Worcester Show on Sunday 14th August. We need volunteers and ideas to deliver the best stall in the best show in the world. Do you want to lead guided bike rides to and from the event from different parts of Worcester? You could help share routes with people who aren't sure about the best way to work or school? Maybe you have a fancy or unusual bike that will stop people in their tracks. Please get in touch with us on Twitter or Facebook (@bikeworcester) if you can help.

Loves a Bike Bus. Bubbles. Has silly ideas that are sometimes supported by others. Can often be found holding up car traffic. Stickers are brilliant.
