Safe Space Declaration
Bike Worcester is a group for everyone who supports cycling in Worcester.
At Bike Worcester, we believe cycling, and supporting cycling's growth, should be accessible and positive for everyone.
In our community, we value:
Being Welcoming: Making everyone feel included.
Showing Respect: Appreciating diverse viewpoints and experiences.
Challenging Bias: Examining our own assumptions about others.
Promoting Equity: Working towards fair participation for all.
Acting with Kindness: Treating each other with consideration and empathy.
We recognise that not everyone faces the same ease or safety when cycling or engaging with the cycling world. Factors like physical ability, age, gender, confidence, ethnicity, or other aspects of their background can create challenges. It's important to be aware of these differences.
Bike Worcester is a space for open conversation and collaboration to improve cycling for everyone in Worcester. We build community together.
To help maintain this safe space, we ask everyone involved – whether participating, volunteering, or supporting – to:
Respect the varied experiences and perspectives within our community. Let's listen, learn, and grow together, being mindful of others in all our interactions, online and in person.
Recognise and actively challenge your own assumptions and biases. Please be mindful of and respect personal boundaries within the community.
Abusive behaviour, verbal or physical, has no place here and will result in removal from activities or platforms.
Understanding that we don't always know what someone else is going through, we encourage everyone to act with care, consideration, and kindness.
Thanks go to Manchester Art Gallery for their wonderful Safe Space Statement which was used as a starting point for the declaration above.
